  4. ElTigreNegro's rating of the film Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People

Nice stab at psychological horror from Honda, showing he had a more wide set of skills from what most people would give him credit for.

  5. Todor's rating of the film Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People

Now I understand why some people do not like mushrooms. 3 out of 5 *

  6. Joseph Sylvers's rating of the film Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People

This is the first Toho film I've seen that is actually creepy and effective in creating a hopeless apocalyptic atmosphere. Based on a William Hope Hodgson story, and a clear influence on Vendermeer's "Ambergris" series, this is much more a tale of the horrors of survival than a monster-feature(though they are here in a sense). The art-design of the mushrooms and fungul growths are both colorful and haunting.
