Ratings & Reviews

  1. El Biffo's rating of the film Beyond the Mountains and Hills

It isn't entirely a linear narrative, but the assembled pieces complete a narrative of a family in Israel who aren't exactly dysfunctional. Maybe it is the society as a whole that's dysfunctional. From the director of The Band's Visit, this film is dedicated to the memory of Ronit Elkabetz.

  2. A.B. II: The Return's rating of the film Beyond the Mountains and Hills

This is one of those multi-marrative works that feels like a collection of incomplete stories bound together to make a feature-length film. Yes, each story might have worked on their own, if properly developed. But, as a whole, there's not enough to tie the stories together. Plus, each story has a different and distinct tone, making the shifts between them a most jarring experience.
