It does have similarities to the Godardian ideal of the smart man and the beautiful woman which is a bit sexist. He also has the ideology. But he wants to improve her, turn her into that thing that failed the last time. But it's like trying to develop muscles by eating cake. The deck is loaded against her.
An incredible piece of neorealism. Following the state of revolutionary Cuba through the perspective of Sergio gives insight on what it means to be seemingly alone in your ideals during a time where everything--from political life to social life--is underdeveloped. From the opening party to the splicing of documentary footage to the blatant repetition throughout, Alea knocked this out of the park.
