Its interesting to know the históry of Another man who fought for his people s freedom, even so the script of the movie isnt so intense like should be. The romance portrayed here between Julia Roberts and Liam Neeson is weak.they dont have enough intensity and it could have been easily cuted from the movie. It s not remarkable, it s forgetable.
Jordan is too much of a poet to tackle this kind of political history head-on, but he should be applauded for attempting to make a film that doesn't conform to the usual hero worship, and refusing to demonize one particular side of the conflict. The film is more about the potential for violence to corrupt. By the end, all the characters have blood on their hands, and their deaths are shown as sad and senseless acts.
An ok biopic-esque affair, after all these years is still watchable because of the charisma of Liam Neeson. Stephen Rea is really underused. Other than that the other thing I would highlight from this is the exquisite music composed by Elliot Goldenthal
this film is a mess. neil jordan shows glimpses of his auteur status, but his mash of hollywood romance, outlandish action film and just sheer historical error, results in michael collins becoming something of a joke. some strong performances from stephen rea and liam neeson. but the stereotpical portrayals of certain figures draws this effort down by some way. the cinematic work gets nowhere near the legacy.
