Ingmar Bergman is looking down from heaven and is proud of Liv Ullmann. People have called her direction here too static, but I think it’s just restrained. This is a film about raw performance, and she’s smart enough to know how to contain it all.
I saw this the day after a somewhat (not really very) simliar experience as the one portrayed in the film/play. So I finally understood the text and the film itself more intimately than I've done before. And I like the film itself as well.
