Odd to see the Moomins outside their bucolic home taking their genial yet passive-aggressive selves to gamble about a Chuck-Jonesque jazz age Riviera. No wonder Snuffkin declined the invite. Still, good to see Little My remaining an agent of chaos. Genial, though not nearly as bewitching as the comic or the anime, though I must admit that the film is closer to Jansson's own illustrative style.
Umm... Okay, so many Finns have been complaining they haven't gotten into this because of the dubbing etc., but having read the original Jansson story, I think the biggest problem is how they decided to veer from the original. A completely pointless scene with pirates and the ending being very different from the rugged charm of Jansson's ending just don't add much value. Animation is good, but otherwise... No.
