a very underrated comedy. 4.5 stars.
I could have done without Melvyn Douglas' narration. Otherwise, a classic gentle observational comedy. H.C. Potter should get more respect.
Disliking this because it's not screwball, which of course it isn't because it's from 1948, is sort of maddening.

Anyone expecting a screwball comedy is going to be disappointed, but this is a fantastic satire.
