Shimizu’s endearing road movie follows the long and winding route of a sweet-natured bus driver—nicknamed Mr. Thank You for his constant exclamation to pedestrians who kindly step out of his path—traveling from rural Izu to Tokyo.

When registering of MUBI, I'm surprised how many Japanese film people see which I don't know completely. So, "Mr. Thank You" is my first Simizu's film. Despite of lilting music like going to picnic, this road movie reflects severe situation that Japan falled into a poverty & just tried to give rise to a war against China or world. But at same time, this has most scrumptious & beautiful smoking scene I've ever seen.
