A wonderful discovery back in '94 that launched the careers of Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths and brought the music of Abba back into popular culture. That affect would have a great influence on a revival that would culminate in the stage musical 'Mamma Mia'. That aside this is a wonderful film about finding one's own worth and the importance of friendship. Collette was magical here. #I am Muriel
You don't feel how much the film has packed into those 106 minutes until you break it down. Growing up, suburbia, ABBA, lies, adultery, friendship, sex, cancer, marriage, dreams, humor, then suddenly, suicide. In a beat, misfit Muriel's quirky charm breaks away to reveal the solemn realities of everyday. One minute you've got a lung full of ABBA, and in the next, you're standing in the middle of scorched earth.
