While I enjoy movies that juxtapose faith with everyday living, this Israeli drama about an Orthodox family and their quotidian routine left me cold. Through three-fourths of the film, I was waiting for something horrible to occur, with hints of darker themes hidden in shadows. When the tragedy emerges in the final act, it seemed manufactured as a means to get across a point. Not for my taste anyway.
For those of us not from this faith, so moving to understand the differences and intricacies. Also such a great sense of history. Of a people carrying history on their backs. It is as though that are conscious of the carrying history, but have forgotten something in the doing of it. Beautifully made.
