Leo McCarey United States, 1952

William's rating of the film My Son John

The first hour of this film is one of the greatest ever made, with much to say regarding contemporary divisions in religion & politics. Beautifully shot interior scenes of a family attempting and failing to understand & reach one another. The characters are all complex, flawed, & deeply human. Robert Walker's death during production forced Leo McCarey to an unfortunate and incoherent conclusion.
