Excellent adaptation of Chekhov novel that completely captures the tone and feel of the time period. Performances are top notch especially Galina Belyayeva as Olga who ensnares the rest of the character's within her feminine atributes. Correct title is "My Tender and Affectionate Beast (A Hunting Accident). Very highly reccomended.
Not sure if this is good Chekhov, but - with only GYPSIES ARE FOUND NEAR HEAVEN to compare - it's certainly good Loteanu. Chekhov is generally pretty subdued, while Loteanu has a taste for the baroque (and this movie is as physically exquisite as its female lead). As in GYPSIES, here woman is an annihilating force; every man's in ruins by the end. And why change a title as great as MY TENDER AND AFFECTIONATE BEAST?
