What are people saying?

  • Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Nasreddin in Bukhara

Final film of Yakov Protazanov, who got into pictures at around the same time as D. W. Griffith. Follows the title character, a sort of Uzbek Robin Hood, as he dupes then runs circles around the rich and powerful of ancient Bukhara, even whisking his girlfriend out of the Emir's harem from under the Emir's nose. Terrific fun, has all the crazy energy of the Arabian Nights - from 1943 USSR, of all places!
