Ratings & Reviews

  1. Jacques de Villiers's rating of the film Nebraska

I've watched lots of Nollywood films, and the thematic concerns of economic ennui plaguing Nigeria and many of its citizens' hopes for a windfall of 'magic money' find surprising cross-continental purchase in the B&W heartbreak and economic landscapes of Nebraska. Dern's inertia is a potent personification of the economic stagnation that surrounds him. A tale of familial heartbreak and healing for the neoliberal age.

  2. Joe Zaydon's rating of the film Nebraska

Liked it when it came out, loved it on the rewatch. This is one of the most uniquely American movies to come out in years. The script is tight and powerful in what it chooses to ignore. The photography is muted but striking. And Bruce Dern's performance is one for the books.

  6. FISCHER's rating of the film Nebraska

It's impossible to watch Nebraska without remembering The Straight Story.

  10. blyniukas's rating of the film Nebraska

Didin't find it particularly moving, inventive or edgy.. Just a story, that will sink into oblivion like so many others. The poster's brilliant, though:)

  12. nargs_au's rating of the film Nebraska

This film is a reminder of just how important it is to know your family.

  13. Le temps perdu's rating of the film Nebraska

Hilarous and moving, Alexander Payne's masterpiece and a hell of a performance by Bruce Dern.

  14. cinegeek.de's rating of the film Nebraska

15. Scorpio Velvet's rating of the film Nebraska

What a neat film this was. That B/W cinematography and music score makes it feel like a modern classic, Bruce Dern can act good in his elder years. Sometimes it felt like a little bit of a road movie because from how the story was being told by Payne, but it really explores more than just searching for a prize - nostaliga & family together were the film's main points. A kind-of feel-good thing really.

  17. abyantama's rating of the film Nebraska

  18. Andrew Miller's rating of the film Nebraska

The characterizations are broad, but there are some painfully accurate scenes here-- I've experienced the "guys in the TV room, women in the kitchen" vibe presented here with deadpan effectiveness.

  19. Ryan O'Connor (23)'s rating of the film Nebraska

  20. Trunfos's rating of the film Nebraska

  21. rachel collier's rating of the film Nebraska

  22. mpho3's rating of the film Nebraska

"The first film by Payne that is visually ravishing. However character-centered it is, audiences will also come away remembering many magnificent images.... Quite a bit of Nebraska takes place in the distance between Hawthorne and Lincoln, and there’s no doubt that Payne’s quiet ambition is to sketch the fate of certain American myths symbolized by those names—and ... Bruce Springsteen." Larry Gross, Film Coment 3.5

  23. Mai Ragab El-Refa'ey's rating of the film Nebraska

This movie is much deeper than just the story of an old man's decline. Open spaces compose lots of frames, which is in contrast with the constraints of Woody's psyche.

  24. Daniel S.'s rating of the film Nebraska

A journey through time and space. Recommended.
