4,5. "Desire" list. A bright abstractly formal experience of suspense, a thriller that is a free exercise that plays with the grammar of film language. The best Badham, as good as De Palma. With a beautiful Depp, reminiscent of Henry Fonda with Hitchcock, also crystalline in his purity and beauty, ever so beautiful except in the Kusturica film, included in this list, and "Dead Man", which should also integrate it.
The bravery of Johnny Depp in this role sort of takes a roller coaster ride from normal guy to blackmailed guy to guy forced into killing a public figure then guy who somehow manages to escape many guns flashing in his face, and then magically back to normal guy whose daughter ended up living. Allover, a decent film with some standout performance moments, but story-wise kind of blah.
