Ratings & Reviews

  1. Christofi Cotonou's rating of the film Night and the City

The most dislikable anti-hero and a time capsule to a London oft-romanticised but never captured. Dassin's directing skills are on full force here, and he'll fine tune them in time for Rififi.

  2. Ethan's rating of the film Night and the City

No matter where Jules Dassin was or who he worked with, he could always deliver a by the numbers film noir that had a lot of heart and entertainment value. Richard Widmark also shines here in a very volatile performance.

  3. FISCHER's rating of the film Night and the City

    >>> Attention, incontournable chef-d'oeuvre du film noir américain ! www.cinefiches.com

  4. etilen's rating of the film Night and the City

Night and the city. The night is tonight, tomorrow night... or any night. The city is London.

  5. Edna Sweetlove's rating of the film Night and the City

Herbert Lom is great in this - if he were alive and the right age he would be perfect as James Bond. Widmark is about as great an actor as, er, um, let me think....Mr Bean?

  6. Aardsy's rating of the film Night and the City

Hard to believe wrestling is a shady business.

  7. Ozu_Teapot's rating of the film Night and the City

    (4) Watched both the US and UK versions back to back and slightly preferred the US where Richard Widmark is a little more despicable. They're both great though!

  8. Histioteuthis's rating of the film Night and the City

It's like sinking into a warm muck

  9. bulgrin's rating of the film Night and the City

Great noir with all essentials a noir needs. And agreed to others the wrestling scene is definitely something special. Widmark was so good in his early days!

  10. Freddie's rating of the film Night and the City

Superb noir, one of the best I've seen.

  11. Ebru Yörükoğlu's rating of the film Night and the City

richard widmark is great here, you can feel his hope and despair. 4,3

  12. SpacePirate's rating of the film Night and the City

One of Dassins finest, and Widmark gives a career defining performance.

  13. RoRoRoro's rating of the film Night and the City

  14. Christopher McQuain's rating of the film Night and the City

  15. Muraki's rating of the film Night and the City

  16. Golden Tarot's rating of the film Night and the City

All in all, a very decent noir. The film takes a good 30 minutes to really pick up, but once it does the suspense is never ending. Definitely worth a watch.

  17. jimmymarkum's rating of the film Night and the City

Harry Fabian (Widmark), the 'little' man 'on the run' is unforgettable. As well as the old bald wrestler Gregorius

  18. Ark V's rating of the film Night and the City

An fitting story set in London about success, filmed by Dassin it's almost unrecognisable but very beautiful.

  19. Michael Harbour's rating of the film Night and the City

Night and the City is VERY DRAMATIC. It's a joy to just turn yourself over to relishing the melodramatic potential of cinema: lighting, camera angles, soundtrack, and performance. A long, deep, impassioned "roll in the celluloid" with the language of cinema.

  20. Sudipto Basu's rating of the film Night and the City

I love how for about five minutes, the whole focus of the plot is allowed to shift in that fight scene. And then it gets back to usual noir mode.

  21. Ben's rating of the film Night and the City

One of the greatest fight scenes in the history of film.

  22. AKFilmFan's rating of the film Night and the City

Widmark does good but Sullivan takes the cake in this fatalistic London noir that is unflinching in its antihero's downfall.

  23. Movie Blabber's rating of the film Night and the City

God damn, this movie is hard to watch. Seeing everything fall apart for the main character in this fashion...it's almost Shakespearian.

  24. Ingrid Bergman's rating of the film Night and the City

Richard Widmark is sensational as the grubby would be promoter Harry Fabian,
