As a serial stalker stalks women, Roy Scheider is a cop obsessed with tracking down...the perfect wedding dress? This seems to want to be a thriller about place, character and relationships a la "The Pledge", but misses by a mile. All Scheider's yammering about baseball recalls the immortal words of Frank Drebin. Certainly a milestone as the most lackadaisical thriller ever made.
An Americanized Giallo with an emphasis on the detective element, Night Game doesn't stride purposefully nor with momentum, but it's worth watching for the always charmingly-authoritative, tough-guy actor Roy Scheider's on-screen resilience that's strong even if its balance of story threads unsuccessfully balance the kill scenes with a detective story and Scheider's home life, feeling disconnected in tone.
