Breaks the rule that says "Daniel Day-Lewis only comes out of isolation to appear in exceptional films". Kidman is awful and the film thinks it is far more clever than it actually is. And far more entertaining.
Más que ser un homenaje a '8 1/2' parece una versión mal acomodada de de la misma. Sé que no pretende ser lo mismo y que está basada en el musical, pero le falta la potencia y ese "caos organizado" de la obra original de Fellini.
I'll watch Day Lewis play a dog in heat! so even though i have reservations with Rob Marshall and the original stage production in which it's based, the cinematography and DDL make it at least worth a watch.
Naturally this movie is not on par with the masterful allegorical Fellini's "8 1/2". For this genre, the musical numbers seemed at times a little lacking with flash and glitter pizzaz that made Marshall's "Chicago" an audience and critical darling.
This is not a great movie. This is not a great Broadway adaptation. This is not a remarkable musical. But it has an astounding Cotillard performance, big choreographies, the finest costumes, beautiful sceneries and an all-star cast. That's enough for me.
