Worth watching for the shot of sunlight glittering on rapidly moving water, suggestion of shadows of leafless trees, cut to the Fall and an outcropping of rock buried in fallen leaves, cut to a single leaf dangling from an invisible strand of spider web dancing with the wind. The transition from Fall to Winter. The whole of cultural displacement captured in that simple but beautiful sequence.
Thought there was going to be more of a statement or a point made here. As it was, it's just a look at this one guy's adjustment to a new country. Seemed very insignificant to me. Nothing bad about it, just dry and not much to say.
This film is incredibly genuine and personal. The filmmaker tells his story plainly and honestly. But that does not mean it is dry, he is able to share the charm of everyday life through the steady shots. Each person filmed seems truthful and it makes the world inviting and intriguing. The story he tells is also moving, sharing hardships that he must overcome. Very simple, but not needing the bells and whistles.
A truly personal, authentic narration of a Spanish immigrant in Sweden. It's honest, educational and inspiring, its style an interesting blend of rough documentary-style video footage and a more aesthetic, ambient style revolving around still photography and meditative, natural sounds. A marvelous fusion of an inspiring personal story and a very aesthetic display of beautiful Sweden.
The cinematography is nice. The way the director tells his story is very humble and unpretentiously beautiful including the cinematography. The reality that the director shared about the number of unemployed people (6 million) was shocking to me and the director himself was one of them.
I have been moved by this movie. Every story is different, but I am still living abroad and nobody knows what it means practically. But after you have seen this movie you can really grasp this meaning, in an intimate, delicate way.
