  1. Frank ViSo's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

  2. Henri de Corinth's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

Loved how this used an ‘epistolary’ structure -amateur footage, documentary, ethnography, investigative journalism, news broadcasts, talk shows, etc.- and how it took ESP/psychic phenomena as a given in its world.’s overlong and the use of music undermines a lot of it.

  3. Kelvin Thompson's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

The slow burn really works to the movie's advantage, allowing individual bits of atmosphere (like the scene in the park) to really soak in, as the overall picture of what's happening gradually becomes clear. That being said, I could have done without the movie slowing down to expound on smaller details (like a ghost someone might not have noticed, etc.); but it's a nitpick. Very solid, overall.

  4. Tibulle85's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

  5. Alvise Narduzzi's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

  6. Ostermyers's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

Shiraishi is a very good pupil.

  7. ionosonde's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

definitely shiraishi's best, and a very thorough take on the found-footage-horror genre. the plot slowly builds, impressively (as mentioned in another review) fitting together multiple plot points into something that ends up surprising you by forming a cohesive whole at the end. great delivery, with a mix of interviews, variety shows, and good old exploration. not very scary, but definitely interesting.

  8. jxn's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

started out really promising but god this got so boring.

  9. Disa's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

not my taste tbqh. pretty boring from the start/

  10. HKFanatic's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

Japan's answer to the "The Blair Witch Project" is easily one of the best found footage movies of the last 15 years. That might sound like a case of damning with faint praise, but "Noroi" is truly exceptional in its ability to balance multiple, seemingly unrelated narrative threads, only for each of them to organically dovetail into a disturbing climax. A memorable cast of characters is an added boon.

  11. f-nanda's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT I cannot think much about this movie because it gives me nightmares. Yes, I'm afraid of the dark also.

  12. TheCentralRuhr's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

tfw when you want to rewatch to study the direction but you're legit scared to approach the film again.

  13. ElTigreNegro's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

I could probably point out a bunch of flaws or common places the movie travels, and yet, it's very effective, and one of the best "found footage"/mochumentary horror movies that has come out in recent years.

  14. Jeremy Ashlyn's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

If you like The Curse, you might look into 'Occult' (Okaruto) by the same director which is not yet listed on Mubi.

  15. Sergio Santiago's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

A roller-coaster nightmare. I mean it as when Noroi is good is superb, but when is bad, is awful. An overrated film, but in the good sense.

  16. nothere's rating of the film Noroi: The Curse

How had such an effective horror film miss inclusion in the Extreme Asian Horror movement? Both thankfully so, if it would had faced into the same treatment as countless other great films in being lobotomized(remade) for western audiences. Here is a smart, remarkably scary, boiler pot horror film that doesn't reinvent the genre but nonetheless uses the genres best elements to terrify. Essential.
