Nosferatu - Eine Symphonie des Grauens

F.W. Murnau Germany, 1922

dionysus67's rating of the film Nosferatu

Seminal expressionist horror film that impresses not really in terms of the rudimentary characterization but mostly, if not exclusively, with the superbly crafted shots of the scrawny vampire (an iconic Schreck) and its somnambulistic march on the plague-stricken town. Such imagery still carries enormous semantic potential both psychoanalytic and sociological on sick society's decay, stigmatization, containment.
