This movie is playing on the tropes of American cinema to the enth degree and does so in very funny and I would say even subtle ways at times. I am sure there were far more references than I could pick out, but I got a few of them, and each were done in affective ways. I do like the cast of young starlets here, notably Chris Evans in a ... ahem ... revealing scene involving whipped cream. See it for a good laugh.
This film probably pinpoints the moment that teen films went from being sentimental to snarky. Which is interesting because I think this film is actually pretty astute at highlighting strange/problematic themes or tropes from teen films, and generally elevates the humour above the "look, reference!" of Friedberg/Seltzer. Obvs ridiculous, and loses itself in final third, but the cast and jokes kinda charming. 2.5
