Ratings & Reviews

  1. DSPRKY's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

Wow, this is dense. Not a moment wasted here. It seems like quite the puzzle to reassemble but I'm impressed nonetheless.

  2. matelot's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

  3. Marc St-Cyr (Death cinéphilia)'s rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

If only i wasn't too lazy to read the novel.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGMtHfM6opQ (By Richard Brody for The New Yorker)

  4. Royce Jr.'s rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

An important non-classical form of film narrative in a politically-oriented way. Real challenging film to watch

  5. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

I love how each of the stories are weaved together so carefully and are each deconstructed and evaluated in such a short running time- this also serves as another great example as to why Straub-Huillet deserve more respect and attention!

  6. Dee's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

    Didn't read the book.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  7. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

  8. El Biffo's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

Why are people comparing Straub to Wes Anderson? I like this a bzillion times better, and can't even make the connection. It's like comparing Dostoevsky to the Hardy Boys. I did have to watch this over and over to get a grip on it, so I can understand why some people may prefer a Bugs Bunny style of film making over this early German New Wave; this requires some thinking, unlike Bugs Bunny Or W.A.., which do not.

  9. Jose Sarmiento Hinojosa's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

  10. David Ehrenstein's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

A very important film. The Straubs take Bolls novel and pare it down to its essentail moments thus producting in 55 minutes what would ordinarily have been a standard 120 minute family-through-the-years drama. The idea is to show that the past and the present co-exist.

  11. Karthik's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

A perfect film in so many ways but perhaps most of all in the perfect integration it achieves between its style & its intent The overall editing rhythm of the film has to be experienced to be believed. (The caviling about "acting" in the film (below) is amazingly besides the point: converting a chief aesthetic merit as it does into a flaw!: indeed one of the first choices for Johanna's role was Brecht's widow.

  12. Rui Soares's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

  13. sam's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

Cigarettes and beverages unite and divide.

  14. House 0f Leaves's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

A fantastic film overall, but hampered by two horrible performances.Still 4/5.

  15. Blue K, Custodian of the Cinema's rating of the film Not Reconciled, Or Only Violence Helps Where Violence Rules

This is the best film by Straub and Huillet, no?
