  3. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film Blood

Pedro Costa's directorial debut is fascinating little gem, highlighting Costa's ability to create delicately composed shots and refusal to answer questions.

  4. Diogo Pires's rating of the film Blood

é, acima de tudo, surpreendente e impactante a estreia de Costa no cinema em Portugal ainda nos 80s. grande mérito de Acácio de Almeida.

  5. João Martins's rating of the film Blood

A story of two 'imprisonment' brothers, looking for a place to live in peace. It's a quite mysterious and pretty good film for a first feature from Pedro Costa. Semi-darkness shots and vague details on the main plot make the viewer wondering about the reasons for a lot of scenes in the film. However, most of the scenes are straight to the point that Pedro Costa wanted to achieve: no empty spaces between shots.

  6. daxterpt999's rating of the film Blood

Blood indeed, but one should think about blood not only as spilt blood but blood as binding substance. Wonderfully shot, a drawing lesson.

  7. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Blood

This is 'Boy meets Girl' without the pretension. That's right, I just took a potshot at your so called Leo Carax. Costa shoots for the heart and never misses. Poetry always beats intellect.

  15. Jim Fear's rating of the film Blood

Estava combinado ver o filme na cinemateca com a minha namorada, entretanto acabámos e ela não apareceu. Senti pena de mim próprio, adorei tudo neste filme, saí de lá pior do que entrei mas adorei.

  16. Rachel Aylett's rating of the film Blood

My first experience of Costa and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cinematography and The The on the soundtrack made the walk by the river exhilarating viewing. Now desperate to seek out his later works.

  17. Paul Relf's rating of the film Blood

Really intriguing. Love the look, especially the very very black parts. Oh and The river. The mist. The Forest. The Fair.

  18. Draughtsman Without Contract's rating of the film Blood

Looks absolutely amazing throughout. The rhapsodic passage when The The play on the soundtrack and the whole mood becomes briefly euphoric whilst two of the main characters walk through a party sequence on the beach is delirious.

  19. mrianlawton's rating of the film Blood

Well, that was enigma piled upon enigma. Lots of meaningful looks and mysterious fragments of dialogue. There seems to be a consensus on its visual merits tho - nearly every shot is stunning chiaroscuro. I'm intrigued enough to seek out his other movies

  20. tintinmugshot's rating of the film Blood

I had the same problem watching In Vanda's Room: Shocking and fantastic pornophotograph. Every frame is a poem of it's own. And that's the big problem too. This movie is like dating "the perfect" girl, big tits but no brain.

  21. Nicolas Pierce's rating of the film Blood

If only every film could look this beautiful! The script is a little 'student film' at times, but for a first feature it's very impressive overall. As soon as the score started up over those monochrome images I was sold.

  22. Tom Hemingway's rating of the film Blood

Pedro Costa's debut is best viewed as a curiosity with stunning black and white cinematography and a handful of inspired moments. The film is let down by poor writing and bizarre tonal shifts, ultimately creating a disjointed effort that remains interesting nonetheless.

  23. Carlos Carneiro's rating of the film Blood

incredible young performances. The lighting. The music. The editing.. all this in a first feature. Wow. This gets filed under "Classics". So good.

  24. Noëlle's rating of the film Blood

Incredible lighting throughout; strange twists and turns..left me with lots of questions
