In a small Austrian village there is a hotel where two sisters grew up. Sonja is now in Berlin; Verena has never left the village. For Sonja, it is time to visit her family and the scenes of her childhood. The reunion slowly but relentlessly brings to light old conflicts between the two sisters.

Critics reviews

The script holds few surprises, and even after a profound family secret is revealed, the film actively resists ramping up narrative tension. As a result, critics have faultedOctober November for being dramatically inert, especially when compared with Spielmann’s previous feature, Revanche (2008). I’d argue, however, that the two films are essentially the same, with identical preoccupations, both cinematic and metaphysical.

[…A] high calibre of acting skill proves to be the only real virtue of October November, a disappointingly drab and shapeless drama that has little of its predecessors’ power… The fleeting pleasures and painful ramifications of marital infidelity remain one of Spielmann’s go-to themes, though here he overplays it to such a degree that no single one of the many betrayals and sufferings at hand carries the weight it ought to.
