Ratings & Reviews

  1. Richmond Hill's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

A triumph of composition & form notably the opening paen to the possibilities of the human form but throughout the interminable games which Riefenstahl endeavours to edit with as much variety & flair as possible. Avoiding a de Millian hubris in monumentalising the already mammoth, this is nevertheless a visually huge display of confidence - sporting or otherwise - and no more politicised than any subsequent games.

  3. smndvdcl's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

Technically, Riefenstahl was a master. Whilst 'Triumph of the Will' can be put in the dustbin of the worst type of propaganda, 'Olympia' feels less partisan.

  5. RoRoRoro's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

  6. Arcanus's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

Some nice female flesh on display and well filmed too. Far too much sport though. I bet Jesse Owens cheated - did they do drugs then?

  7. lauli's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

Excellent opening scene. It's amazing how Riefenstahl set the standard for the way the Olympics have been filmed ever since.

  8. Charles Coleman's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

Very good doc, loved the tension between Hitler and German athletes. Seeing his pain and frustration was really interesting. I suppose it would have been too much to see his reaction when Jesse Owens won gold but its all amazing footage with a nice avant-garde nude men and women beginning.

  9. chanandre's rating of the film Olympia Part One: Festival of Nations

One of the best opening sequences i've seen in quite some time. Beautifully shot.
