Digital. Being Kusturica an isiosyncratic and extremely identifiable filmmaker, he will never be one that i could appreciate, because of the distance i have in relation to his motives and forms and, above all, by his reiterated impositive expression, which by the extreme explanation of its matrix become unbearable. See, in this case, how the human and animal circus becomes an expository over the top feast.
His no-longer-eminent eminence, Mr. Kusturica. We are used to the verdict: a man fallen from grace, brought down by hubris. So it is very delightful to witness the antic filmmaking flourish and jubilant invention of his early, great works (peeking in the late 90s), in the first sections of Milky Road. But not so fast, folks. Sadly, this movie goes completely off the rails. But Monica Bellucci remains stunning. Duh.
I've always had zero interest for Kusturica so I watched this with profound skepticism. So much so that at some point, unable to leave the room, I engaged with the film's pointless derives, empty romanticism (is 'instant eloping' a category of rape?), and random gore, as simply, for the last 20-30m, a narrative-in-nature. Save the balkans from Kusturica!!
Che dire? Kusturica mi lascia sempre molto divertito, in parte affascinato, ma con molti dubbi. La narrazione è costellata di difetti, mentre alcune scene sono talmente assurde da essere geniali. La sensazione è però che questa volta il regista del surreale abbia calcato troppo la mano, sfociando molto spesso in scene trash, che alla lunga fanno storcere il naso. Sto giro Emir, forse, ha pisciato fuori dal vaso.
