Immortality doesn't seem that appealing suddenly. A perfect encapsulation of melancholy and loneliness. The cast is a brilliant gem. Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton wearing sunglasses at night is the pure definition of "cool". Plus, the fact that we never see the daylight in this film is on point. That is why midnight is the perfect time to watch this film. Also, R.I.P. John Hurt and Anton Yelchin.
Only Lovers Left Alive is a very self-conscious effort. The film is all posturing and hipster-vanity, seemingly thinking that if there's no action or horror in a vampire film that it somehow makes it artier. As, instead, the character's have endless and repetitive conversations showing how cultured and witty they are, as if droning about it makes the obvious themes more important. A smug as hell film.
