Ratings & Reviews

  1. redux's rating of the film Ordinary Fascism

Talking about the Third Reich without a single mention of the Jewish issue is not only absurd, but inadvertently highlights the similarities between the Nazis and the Soviets. A very disappointing piece of obsolete propaganda.

  2. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Ordinary Fascism

Easy to criticize: all Romm's comments about the Hitler personality cult, the brainwashing, the burning of books, holds good for the Stalin era too. I don't think the director's so stupid as to be unaware of this, but it's something that could not be said point blank in 1965. Besides, the film is about Nazism, and via bitterly sarcastic voiceover and an effective juxtaposition of images it achieves a blunt force.
