Kiss and minibikes were almost all I thought about that year, along with the troubling but intriguing scraps of blue materials conveniently discarded behind Erik Engebretsen's house. Hvor er du nå, Erik? Not that we spoke Norwegian on Long Island at the time. And not that this is a Norwegian film, either. A killer debut for Matt Dillon is what it is, and holy teen-writ for '70s nostalgists both dazed and confused.
Kurt Cobain named Over the Edge as one of the most influential films he ever saw, and for good reason. Musicians know that this film basically started the entire "grunge" movement. I couldn't believe I was watching the honesty and truth depicted in this film. Before Fast Times, before Superbad, before Linklater, there was Over The Edge. This is a must see and one of the best films about youth ever.
