Based on Holling C. Holling’s beloved Caldecott-awarded children’s book, William Mason’s stunning film follows the adventures of a tiny, wood-carved canoe as it forges its own path from Lake Superior through the Great Lakes and down to the Atlantic Ocean.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what’s now showing
PC. Thank heavens for the National Film Board of Canada and its little tales in the fantasy world of children and narrative adventures, in a way reminiscent of the wonderful "Louisiana Story" by Robert Flaherty - of whole Flaherty, by the way.
Without the redundant narration and the cliche music, 5 stars. The visual is so rich and the sound design as well. My favorite moment was when the little kid was pushing his dog to catch the boat :-D Marvelous.
