Ratings & Reviews

  1. Lights in the Dusk's rating of the film Pale Rider

Continuing many of the same themes as High Plains Drifter & The Outlaw Josey Wales, this is another sombre, apocalyptic, almost supernatural western, in which Eastwood's character is less protagonist in the conventional sense than an 'avenging angel' seeking solace from the beyond the grave. One of the director's masterpieces, this is a powerful, unflinching, starkly photographed mediation on violence & redemption.

  2. J.J. 'Jake' Gittes's rating of the film Pale Rider

This is Clint Eastwood as we know him: lonely, no fear, the good, striking against the evil, the man with no name. Here he touches subjects like environmental protection, greed, fear & religion. Very good performing of entire cast; however too much cliche, predictable and ....have seen so many times. Still proper entertainment.

  3. grotescsetorg's rating of the film Pale Rider

  4. Ethan's rating of the film Pale Rider

This would make a great double feature with High Plains Drifter.

  5. Brotherdeacon's rating of the film Pale Rider

A good samurai/western from Shinto sources with a god-like Appaloosa.

  6. SiIencio's rating of the film Pale Rider

Built around the intriguing but underdeveloped figure of the mysterious preacher this film is hugely let down by the foolish pantomime enacted by caricature villagers and plodding villains. Eastwood's presence is a tour the force riding on a dull script. The film picks up at last thanks to the much needed danger that comes with the ruthless marshals and the typical final shoot-out that clears the stand-off.

  7. Andrew Miller's rating of the film Pale Rider

Some striking images, but I wish it went further into the strange.

  8. Michael Zyx MH Claes's rating of the film Pale Rider

Comme les 2 faces d'un dollar d'argent Eastwood promène sa lumière et sa noirceur décomplexée. Oeuvre crépusculaire et habitée. As the two sides of a silver coin Eastwood walks his light and his uninhibited darkness. Haunted work whose echo resounds long time, like its young heroine.

  9. Nelson Núñez's rating of the film Pale Rider

Clint Eastwood podrá tener altos y bajos como director, pero haciendo westerns es un maestro. Esta versión no oficial, mejorada y madura de Shane vuelve a demostrarlo.

  10. Violins By Night's rating of the film Pale Rider

  11. Federico Di Folco's rating of the film Pale Rider

  12. João-Pedro Cordeiro's rating of the film Pale Rider

  13. JaimeOBWK's rating of the film Pale Rider

Amazing western, with a great message and a nice cinematography.

  14. Tigrão's rating of the film Pale Rider

Really fantastic! It's also amazingly shot. I mean, the color tones are fantastic.

  15. Daniel S.'s rating of the film Pale Rider

Shane meets the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in one of the peaks of Clint Eastwood's career. Masterpiece.

  16. Effendi Ben Smith-Malick's rating of the film Pale Rider

I don't see how John Bly could only be an extra throw away bad guy at the end. He's the most evil dude in the old west. Still decent though.

  17. Scout Tafoya's rating of the film Pale Rider

This is the most Leonean of all of Eastwood's Westerns. For me that ain't a good thing.

  18. Posterocalypse's rating of the film Pale Rider

A slow burn (emphasis on slow), but an enjoyable ride nonetheless.

  19. T.J. Royal's rating of the film Pale Rider

A worthwhile, entertaining four-star (of five) flick with a few embarrassing missteps. Clint was fine as "Preacher," and the characters of gold baron LaHood and the corrupt marshal Stockburn were effective and very much welcome. Also some really effective shots of the mountain landscape, and framing and silhouettes of the characters. Outside of the business with the dog and some feeble performances, recommended.

  20. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Pale Rider

Old-fashioned Clint Eastwood western tells a simple story with great authentic Old West atmosphere. Eastwood brings his usual unmistakable presence, and he's backed by a strong supporting cast. The plot may be conventional and melodramatic at times, but in the hands of a craftsman like Eastwood, this is one of the better ones.
