Great step up in brazilian cinema. Interesting and far from stereotype storyline, compelling shooting and nice photography. Drugs do play a central role not only creating the atmosphere but also setting the plot twists. Even though that's true its role is a lot more mature than I would expect. It's used as love trigger, key to open minded view and as connection to both real (money and trafficking) and ideal world.
It could be more than it already is. With some boldness it might have become a film about how drugs create so many of the moods, landscapes and moments in our lives. Instead, the plot flows to let it blossom into a love story - of which cinema has seen quite a lot. Even like this, it's a good movie, that approaches the theme, and then dodges it. 45 years after the death of the hippie, drugs are moslty for recreation.
