Somewhere between Hannah and Her Sisters and Terms of Endermeant is Parenthood - arguably Ron Howard’s all time best and undoubtly his most personal (per his own words at a beautiful 35mm screening I attended). Touching, funny, smart and highly entertaining - this film has aged so gracefully and reflects a time and kind of movie that doesn’t exist anymore. This would never be financed today -would have to be a show.
I love this movie mostly because it's one of the first family-oriented movies I've seen that's both hard-hittingly honest as well as satisfying. some issues, especially the ones about family, are very hard to address because they hite too close to home but this movie dealt with all of those quite tactfully. It's a welcome change, too, that parents are portrayed in a way that's relatable to the youth.
