30 hand picked films. A new one every day
Not Chaplin's best. It's fun and all, but I hold him up to high standards.
Sous l'humour et le comique de ce court métrage se cache finalement beaucoup de pessimisme et d'amertume, comme d'ailleurs pour maintes réalisations du grand metteur en scène ..... www.cinefiches.com
The working man's daily grind, Chaplin-style. Bonus points for a charming use of running the film stock in reverse.
Bleak. Building site scenes esp. brilliant.
Never get drunk!
The husband was just her wife's son!
Fun early short from Chaplin. Some great site gags especially the lift and the streetcar.
★★★★ underpaid on his overtime.
sad to know that Chaplin's last short film.
+ 1 Star for the Lift sequence. .. ^^
Another film where they play the stereotypes of overbearing wives (so overdone!)
The gag with the lift can be seen in M. Hulot's Holiday in a different form: this time with a paint can and the sea.
While its strongest moments are in the beginning the film is a pretty good and to-the-point short by Chaplin.
His brick-catching skills are truly fascinating.
