Acclaimed director Kim Longinotto is often drawn to tough women. Now she follows Sampat Pal Devi, the leader of the “Pink Gang,” who brings her own brand of justice to the streets of Uttar Pradesh, India, combating violence against women.

Sampat Pal is a brave, flawed, passionate, feminist vigilante. She works so hard fighting for women's rights (especially Untouchables) and to empower them. Yet you realise that so much of what Sampat has to do is a compromise. She challenges and dismisses caste, but still has to work with it. I think of all the tears Sampat has wiped away with her dupatta. "Life is cruel for women".
