Cringe-worthy. I can understand the allure in taking advantage of a cash-cow franchise by putting out more films; but the fifth installment of Pirates has turned the characters and the story into parodical husks of their former selves. This one feels like the writers had no idea how to continue the story, so they opted to throw in a boring McGuffin and a cookie-cutter Jack Sparrow-hating villain.
Good film, not as good as the previous ones, but still solid. Amazing scenes, effects and costumes, but the plot wasn't that good, I still don't understand how they found the island at the end, zero explanation. Plus Jack was different, almost sad, he has his good moments but still not Johnny's best work, he needs to find his mojo again. Still an enjoyable movie that brought back memories, I'll surely watch it again
You can actually see it on Depp's face him disliking the movie while doing it. You'll want to unsee this so don't even try. IF someone is doing another one (although I would highly advise against it), at least take Brenton's shirt of to earn another half of star.
there's a scene where the crew is scrambling to find an alternative to the black pearl and they start pushing this one ship out to the water and as they're pushing it the boat's name comes into view, etched on the side, and it's called "the dying gull" and i loled so here's 3 stars
