Lots of great performances and believable human interactions in this. Resisting the obvious Brokeback Mountain direction it easily could have taken, it transcended stereotype and cliche and avoided pandering, instead telling human stories that just so happen to involve masculine gay men living in rural America.
What made this film difficult for me is the fact that, once again, a trailer made the picture look so much better than it actually ended up being. In my opinion, it focused too much on trivial aspects of these characters' lives instead of the interpersonal ones. Not to mention the fact that nothing actually happens with the two gay men of the film until the last 20 minutes. Three stars only for decent production.
