Described as a “drama made expressly for chimps”, APES AS FAMILY is an experiment in two parts: a fictional film about chimpanzee identity crisis, intercut with the responses of actual chimps when it “premiered” in the cage at the Edinburgh Zoo.

Bizarre blend of anthropological study, documentary and what seems to be black comedy that results in a strange but fascinating watch. Short film from Rachel Mayeri that promises a future with interest. Well worth a quick watch.
Fascinating, even though I'm not sure what I just saw. Needs multiple viewings, but a wild and wonderful experiment in image association, and allay acting. Any intended narrative is pretty abstract. It's like a Charlie Kaufman film with a Herzog/Bunuel pseudo documentary narration.
