Cani Arrabbiati

Mario Bava Italy, 1974

Andre's rating of the film Rabid Dogs

Nauseautingly brutal, but proof Bava was a genius. He builds up a vision of a ruined Italy ruled by petty chance, where survival is a matter of seeing the right thing at the right time, and then being animalistic enough to act. The power dynamic of the criminals is fascinating too: they're pathetic in their aspirations to a kind of perverted honour, while still being terrifying.
