Edward Dmytryk United States, 1957

msmichel's rating of the film Raintree County

MGM's lavish but troubled production is distinctive for being both the most expensive production of all time (up to its release) and for being the first Hollywood production shot in 65mm. But for all its cost it fails miserably in its script adaptation and in creating mostly loathsome characters. Taylor plays madwoman/racist while Clift moves from playing the world's oldest teenager to spineless wimp. Total mess.
