A CGI Western stravaganza with an imagery nothing short of spectacular. The script is plagued with sharp dialogues, funny like a clown. It is also an homage to classic cinema left right and centre. Johnny Depp excels in another impressive chameleonic performance as sheriff Rango. It is increasingly difficult to find contemporary animation suitable for children, this is no exception. But it is a treat nonetheless.
An adorable quirkfest that arguably appeals more to adults than children thanks to an intellectually stimulating script and an idiosyncratic style of CGI animation. Johnny Depp was a perfect voice-over choice for Rango. As a pastiche to Westerns, it works wonders. Paramount and Nickleodeon struck gold with this union.
Verbinski after making us suffer through the pirates movies finally returns to his roots as a maker of film for children (remember Mousehunt). But then turns around and makes the film really for adult film buffs. Full of homages to some wonderful films and characters we all love. From the spag. westerns to high noon from john huston to clint eastwood and so much in between. A lot of fun for young and not so old.
A thoroughly enjoyable animated homage to Western movies - full of unexpected references and a cast of surreal characters in a vibrant and colourful world. Fantastic textures, surprisingly gritty, and featuring genuinely funny performances all around, and a very imaginative story - no less was expected from the man behind Mouse Hunt (although, the Pirates is tiresome).
