The director's cut of Reindeer Games is incredibly underappreciated and is a notable genre-defying rosebud for its action/thriller filmmaker: a playful and funny lark that turns up tropes of his usual serious tone to cartoon-like proportions. Affleck-- who has always been at his charmingly cocksure best when he goes for laughs-- is actually well cast. The dialogue is snappy and the characterization is effecient, too.
Effective action movie from the director of Birdman of Alcatraz. The end scene of the bank notes drop in the mailboxes was taken over in BREAKING BAD.= Film d'action efficace de l'auteur du Prisonnier d'Alcatraz. La scène de la distribution de billets de banque dans les boîtes aux lettres a été reprise quasi à l'identique dans BREAKING BAD. Cast: Charlize THERON, Ben AFFLECK, Gary SINIZE, Dennis FARINA, Isaac HAYES.
2.4 Awkward. Way too much talking, a totally unbelievable story, unnecessary violent outbreaks (the darts). Frankenheimer still knows how to composite great images, but the script just doesn't know what to do with the material: endless babble. (An attempt to imitate Tarantino?)
