Interesting that this is essentially a Romeo & Juliet style love-story between a living boy & his undead girlfriend, years before such conventions would become the mainstream (the internal dilemmas of recent films Life After Beth & Burying the Ex are clear descendants). Beyond the novelty of this, there's little to recommend. The first Return of the Living Dead is one of the great comedy-horrors; this is neither.
Endlessly fascinating work from the pre-Scream deadzone of the early 90s. Yuzna doesn't always seem to have the tone under control and many scenes are a tad limp, but there's a bold commitment to the body-mod horror angle and the two leads play the bizarre material arrow-straight which makes for some genuine pathos and heartbreak. For me, this oddity ranks among the greatest misunderstood horror sequels.
