2-3. Gorgeous, but probably a little bit too nice for its own good. There's not really much weight or bite to anything. In most other films, Jack probably would have had to give up on his memories, or at least resisted becoming a guardian. And while his lack of resistance lets the film dodge some emotional discomfort, it also causes the movie to lose out on potential conflict. It is appreciably abstract, however.
Knowing Guillermo Del Toro's name is on this suddenly puts Rise of the Guardians into perspective for me. Wild animation and great character design make the movie, even if the Boogeyman looked like Hades from Disney's Hercules and the idea of a Russian Santa and Australian Easter Bunny do it for you. Well worth a watch and a good place to steer the evening if you're harangued into watching a kid's movie.
An underrated del Toro-produced adventure has bright animation, nice imaginative touches, a solid story, and good voice-acting). Even though the elves were trying to be like Despicable Me Minions and the baby teeth acted like they were from a old Barbie movie I surprisingly got into this movie.
Not nearly half as impressive as I had expected it to be. The characters and plot had a nice basis but definitely weren't developed enough; the ending was terribly. What doesn't help is that computer animation tends to annoy the hell out of me. All in all, a disappointment.
