Revamping the Archie Comics characters - created in 1939! - as a "Twin Peaks"-inspired youth drama on the CW network sounds like a surefire recipe for disaster, but damn if this isn't the most gorgeous-looking show on television, and a well-scripted exploration of teen angst and hormones to boot. Even the potential stunt casting of former teen idols like Luke Perry and Skeet Ulrich as parents proves oddly touching.
The teenage soap opera that those of us who grew up cringing at One Tree Hill and The OC have always dreamed of. The writing, costumes and cinematography complement one another commendably, and the Twin Peaks-esque backdrop adds a sense of edge and intrigue to an otherwise quintessential "American teen soap" dealing with serious (if not slightly melodramatic) coming of age issues and situations.
