Still good for the most part, but just went little too fast throughout until Rodan destroying the entire town. Some good classic special effects at that time, also the first kaju-genre movie filmed in color. (I am finally surprised about why the caterpillars were served in the first half, it's because Rodan needed to eat & grow up.)
Certainly as allegorical as Godzilla, this is the story of Japanese men worrying about the American's bomb while only burrowing into the Earth themselves. Once it caves in on them, they're slowly picked off by mutated monsters: each new death resulting in a procession of stretchers. But when something slumbering (pterodactyl!) emerges, people die by the thousands, with the flattened buildings their only remembrance.
