Pretty much routine storytelling that gets too silly at times, but it's saved from being disastrous thanks to the charm that is brought by the main cast. Rarely, it manages to be even sentimental without being corny - but mostly it requires too much of the suspension of disbelief to be accessible.
An affectionate, warm tribute to the timeless bittersweet truths of "Cyrano de Bergerac." Steve Martin is magnificent as Renaissance fire chief C.D. Bales, a learned romantic with one fatal physical flaw. Darryl Hannah is luminous, intelligent and kind as the object of Bales' anonymous affections. The supporting cast is stacked with terrific, hilarious character actors. A delightful update made with love and class.
