A lurid, over-the-top thriller that is way too occupied channeling Tony Scott and Oliver Stone to actually tell a coherent story. I have no problem with films that don't feature a single redeemable character. It only becomes a problem when there is nothing worth investing in. It features some of Walker's best work, but takes so many terrible directions that it ultimately becomes an empty tiresome bore.
Hate to say it but I kind of love this film. Yeah it's plotted like a bunch of a hole Tarantino fanboys got together and circle jerked a movie into existence. But there's a weird family dynamic thats shoehorned into a plot involving, the mafia, child abuse, police corruption, and black light massacres...you see where I'm going. Stylized to point where it feels like it was made on another planet inhabited by dicks.
If I told Wayne Kramer this was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in my life, do you think he would be glad to hear it or do you think he'd be seriously offended? I'm honestly asking, I've been debating with my family for days whether or not this was intended to be a black comedy. Even the child molesters are hysterical.
