Ratings & Reviews

  1. Richard Tines's rating of the film School for Postmen

First directed short... introduces the style and themes he was to work with his entire artistic career (an absurdist commentary on our relationship to tech and time, high-camp sight/sound gags, a philosophy of play, above all) here are even some bits that made it into later movies (he charmed the small town he shot this in so much, they were glad to have him back for "jour de fete")..All in all a great director start

  2. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film School for Postmen

It was cute and hinted at what was to come from Tati!

  6. pluviosity's rating of the film School for Postmen

I'm trying to be not too tacky, but really, watching this movie you can really feel Jacques Tati love to the cinema.

  7. FISCHER's rating of the film School for Postmen

    Tati for ever ! www.cinefiches.com

  8. Mighty Quinn's rating of the film School for Postmen

Quite funny Tati short, a precursor to the feature Jour de fête where he plays a postman. As usual, it's a fine blend of physical comedy and charm, the Chaplain influence being very apparent.

  11. mpho3's rating of the film School for Postmen

What fun! "A wonderful primer on the pet methods and preoccupations of the Tati universe: the fascination with tradition at odds with modernity and technology; the flair for visual gags, aural design, and intricate comic sequences; the minimal, almost non-existent spoken dialogue." - The Cinematheque

  15. Henrique Verkündigung's rating of the film School for Postmen

the final scene is priceless! tati was growing as a director back then, it's great to see his own developing process in cinema!

  16. Sudipto Basu's rating of the film School for Postmen

A largely Chaplinesque short, but already infused with some of Tati's characteristic inventiveness.
